  • Welcome to the boards Crypto, it's been a pleasure sharing our numismatic adventures and experiences. Your passion for and knowledge of Trade dollars helped me improve my collection. When is that Trade dollar book coming out? 😎

  • @Seatedman It is easy to converse when both collectors agree on the same set of facts and condition. As for the book, only god and Joe know that and god may be left in the dark as well

Hello, My name is David and I'm from a Podunk town in Arkansas called Fouke.  Yes it's the home of the Boggy Creek Monster, LOL.  I am glad to be a part of this forum and hope to learn and explore topics and coins with others here.  I primarily collect Proof Franklin Half Dollars (more of an obsession than a collection), but dabble a bit in Walking Liberty And Proof Kennedy Half Dollars.  I like to learn new things and share what knowledge I have with others.

Hi David...........my mom is from Mena! ;-) karl

  • I'm Karl from Roswell, NM, but now reside in Hollywood, FL. Been collecting since I was a kid. Grandma used to pay me with silver coins to mow her lawn........... :-) I am all over the map with my coins and collect stuff I find "interesting"...... :-)
  • Hello all, long time hobbyist off and on, last blast was about 10 years ago when I loaded up thru Heritage Auctions. Interest waned as gold and silver fell in price. Since many/most of those coins are finally above water and some are way to the good, feeling into it again so I'm back in the game, buying and selling thru Ebay, Heritage and Great Collections.
Meantime, I moved from central NJ (East Windsor) down to SW Florida (Naples) with my wife and 2 lovely dogs, been here 8 years now. Originally grew up in Bergen County (Oradell) but parents moved to Holmdel where I went to high school.
    Best regards,
    John Tais
  • Welcome to the CAC forum.
  • Hello, my name is Mark and I also am on the PCGS forum and have been since 2007.
Although not very frequently the last year or so.
I generally consider myself a type collector.
I do seem to gravitate to CBH's and silver Washington Quarters.
I have been assembling an MS and PR 32-64 silver Washington Quarter set over the last several years and enjoy it very much.

    Hi All,

This is John Tοtah and I enjoy collecting totally original coins as my hobby and as a custodian / curator for future generations to follow me. I have total respect for the way CAC and you all have created a unique way to ensure coins are preserved and recognized as unaltered for the assigned grade. Thank you so much!

Hi. I'm Matt and have been collecting coins for many years. I recently joined this forum and think this will be a great venue to learn more about CAC and how to submit coins.

I am submitting for the first time and am not sure what to put in 2 of the submission for fields. I'm not sure what to put in "variety, and "Desg." I'm guessing that I could leave "variety" blank since the coins I am submitting have no special traits, but I am not sure if I need to put anything in the "Desg" field.

Also, is it alright to put only the last 8 digits of the PCGS certification number or do I have to put both sets of numbers (before and after the forward slash?

Lastly, I use my bank’s billpay service so I don’t have a checkbook, and its not worth getting a $10 checkbook just to send a check to CAC. When submitting coins, has anybody tried sending a check separately from the coins, and sent the coins after the check was received, or a similar way? On billpay I would put my member number where the account number goes.

By the way, does anybody know how to use the CAC bar scan feature using a laptop? on the CAC website?

I hope my questions don't sound foolish. I just figured I'd ask here instead of calling CAC customer service each time I have a question.
  • Welcome @geminiguy90028

I can answer a couple of your questions. Just leave blank if the slab doesn't indicate a variety or designation (such as cameo, etc). Indicate the last 8 digits after the / (for PCGS) since this is what as known as the certification number. Regarding payment options, you should definitely contact CAC.
  • Thank you very much. The information was helpful. Now I feel more confident about submitting my coins.

I was wondering if you might find your way to here. Good and welcome.
  • Hi, I'm Jim and a collector of Morgan and Peace dollars. Lucky to have started almost 20 years ago when prices were much lower than today and EBAY was a great place to buy coins at a bargain. New purchases have slowed down drastically after son started college and collection helped fund the cost. Current numismatic enjoyment is from looking at collection; I never tire of looking at my collection, primarily in Dansco and LOC albums, reading the forums and learning from others, and keeping up with the price increases. :)

CU member for 15 years and decided to join CAC forums yesterday. Great discussions here and I see a lot of other CU members on forum.
  • Yes. Since getting banned I don't get to reply to discussions on CU. Thankfully, there are many here I formerly bantered with. Basically, I have very little to contribute here as most members know more than I do. So, this will be a way to learn more about what goes on in the commercial side of the market.
  • I recently returned to coin collecting after a hiatus of 40 years. The coin market of the early 1980's was, for dealers, the "happy times". Not so for collectors. Overgrading was rampant and the only grading authority was the ANA which issued easily manipulated paper certificates. It was a good way to lose a great deal of money fast. Many left the hobby never to return.
I am hopeful that the presence of PCGS and NGC has put an end to the most egregious practices. My opinion of CAC, after submitting over a dozen coins, is still in its' formative stage. None of my submissions warranted a sticker! In a few cases I have been able to compare my rejected coin to an approved coin of the exact same series, date and grade and have been unable to discern a difference. It would greatly increase the CAC experience if a rejected coin was returned with the principal reason for its' failure to make the grade (ugly toning, weak strike, poor luster, etc.). Also, an internet accessible registry of rejected coins would alert would be submitters not to waste their time and money. Adding these two services, even at a slight increase in cost, would make the rejection of a submitted coin a valuable learning experience.
  • Welcome aboard!
  • Sure are alot of Johns. :) I think it's probably the most common name in our country. Welcome aboard john from D.C. I'm John from TN, carpenter by trade, and avid collector although I'm somewhat new to the hobby.
  • Interesting point by eyedoc812, “ None of my submissions warranted a sticker! In a few cases I have been able to compare my rejected coin to an approved coin of the exact same series, date and grade and have been unable to discern a difference”.

Most likely there is/are differences. I think the CAC team should provide a post it note with very brief reason for “not  CAC” coins - not just occasionally but routinely. Guess more time and effort to do that though. Of course, if the coin doesn’t sticker, there is no fee other than handling and postage. Probably why I always seem to have a credit balance. But PCGS, for example, at least gives a reason code for no grades but they keep the fee anyway. Guess it’s not CACs job to explain their reasons all the time but it would be helpful.

    Suzy? Suzy Creamcheese?

Long time Franklin Half specialist. I heard that John Albanese just LOVES IT it when he opens a box submitted for CAC review and finds ALL FRANKLINS!
