Hello,
I have been collecting prooflike gold for the past 30 years.
This is the first coin I bought back in 1992 and it got a gold sticker.
I guess this speaks to how grading standards have loosened.
Anyone else interested in PL gold?

Nice! Heck of an example of "first coin purchased"!
Grading has loosened, but you need to also put stock in your own eye for quality. That is one of the nicest PL I have seen.
Wow, I love that coin!
Congrats Doug. That's a stunner.

@DougGprooflikegold Nice PL gold dollar!
You have been collecting PL gold for a long time, well before PCGS, and even NGC, started designating gold as PL.
I love the look of PL gold too. Here is an 1898-S $20 NGC MS63 CAC approved. The mirrors are deep on this example. The 1898-S is the second most common $20 Lib in PL behind the 1904.
Yes, when I started collecting these ANACS was the only firm that gave the PL designation and to which collectors could directly submit their coins to. I still have many coins in the old small white ANACS holders. When I look at them now they seem to be undergraded. Here’s my 1898-S $20 still in original ANACS holder!
Now thats a nice coin!
That Lib does look like it could regrade, but it is cool in the old holder
