We all love stickered coins (for a price) ... just don't forget NGC's rare "star" rating. Quality is right up there.

NGC “Stars” are awarded for exceptional eye appeal, not premium quality. And those can be two very different things,
  • A star coin with a CAC sticker is ideal!

And usually exceptional eye appeal only on the obverse. Ie. Ultra Cam obverse only, yet graded Cameo.

  • I have made this comment many times. "You can over pay for ANYTHING not matter how good it is." That goes for a 1964 cent in a PCGS PR-70 DCAM holder, which is POP-1 or a 1913 Liberty Nickel in a PR-65 holder at $50 million.
  • $50 million? Pshaww.... :D ;)
  • Ironically, the premium for gold (or even mere green) CAC's can be higher now than it was then:

Most of NGC Star coins that I submit get CAC'd. I wonder whether or not anyone has ever kept track of the approval percentage.

Paying $25,000 for a 1962 PR-65 Franklin Half Dollar is pretty much the same thing on a smaller scale.
  • That is why I completely eschew EBAY. Can you believe those price tags? Are there really people who will pay $21,999 for a 1909 VDB 1c in MS65 RB?
    A $150 coin at best
