  • MarkFeld said: I see that I overlooked the working definition of a “great collection” provided by Gazes, so apologize to Laura for taking issue with her views on the subject. At the same time, I’m sorry that the definition is being restricted…
  • Legend said: I know I am more then an authority on building great collections 1 You WILL and MUST over pay to buy the best coins. This is in ANY market. 2 Nope. You might think it can, but collectors forget, dealers know where some coin…
  • For those who feel like the prices for CAC coins are overvalued now, keep in mind this---prior to the pandemic, I read over and over that CAC coins were trading at a premium that could not possibly last and those coins were overvalued.  For the time…

  • ptolemyII said: Well-conceived and expressed topic. It's refreshing to see it discussed so sanely and usefully. @JACAC likes the 94-S 10c PR65+ (Eliasberg "second best" more than either of the PR66's and he stickered on of them. So which …
  • Everyone is different but I did not want a puttied coin in my collection. I just wanted to mention that I don't think everyone is so different here Ha! You would be surprised!
  • The trade off building an all CAC collection is you may pass on a few terrific coins but you will avoid many avg or problem coins.  In my opinion the majority of collectors buying coins $2500+ coins would derive more benefit buying only CAC coins.  …

  • Catbert said: Agree, but registry fever can undermine a quest for quality since there is an emphasis on the grade and not necessarily quality within a grade.  Definitely
  • Good luck with your presentation.  Looks interesting.  Also, glad to see you on the CAC forum! Enjoy the FUN show.

  • Always remember---it is always just about the coin for JA.  If others buy or dont buy CAC coins for other reasons, it has nothing to do whether or not CAC stickers the coin.
  • I think it depends on the series and even date.  But the coins that trade at large premiums now I feel will explode in value if as the OP states JA retires or sells.  The population of CAC coins is very stable.  If one assumes no new stickers, a lim…
  • mellado said: There ‘s nothing like examining in hand an item. I learned that in 1960 after buying an 1829 half dime in Proof for $50 & upon receipt it was a polished AU & this from a very prominent numismatic auctioneer. Since then if …
  • Winesteven said: While I almost always agree with @Gazes, not so here. The vast majority of my collection was obtained via auction, and the only show I attend is Winter FUN (the juices are flowing, as that’s only two weeks away). I choose to o…
  • Nice comments so far.  Another "trick" I've used when I cant see a coin first hand is research.  Many coins I am interested in tend to be condition census so often I can find an article/ book etc that mentions that specific coin.  Sometimes they can…
  • I assume any coin that has a significant difference in value between stickered and non stickered has been sent in.  Most people do not want to leave money on the table.
