Ok…I’m just a small time collector here. I don’t like selling any coin for a loss; however, I won’t hesitate to do so to free up most of that money to put towards other coins. This strategy is based on the fact that all of my cumulative sales combin…

I think CAC should allow us to enter any cert number to determine any coins status such as CAC, no CAC and Undetermined (which means it’s never been to CAC). This would help differentiating the value of any coin. After all th…
I think CAC should allow us to enter any cert number to determine any coins status such as CAC, no CAC and Undetermined (which means it’s never been to CAC). This would help differentiating the value of any coin. After all the goal of CAC is to curb…
I’ve heard the stories…so much for CAC/CACG consistency! CACG may be the strictest today, next week and maybe next year. Only time will tell if this is maintained beyond as there will certainly be grader turnover. Even if there isn’t turnover and C…
The CACG slab is scratch prone and needs to be addressed.
If you have a good eye and collect PQ coins, the value will be determined by the coin not the plastic and stickers. Run of the mill coins are all impacted by plastic type.
Grading is subjec…
There was talk of a “new” CAC sticker when JA left the helm at CAC but that was before CACG came about. He is now on a 10 year contract for stickering so my guess would be that if something happened to JA the stickler business would cease operations…
That is correct…I worked in a sulfur plant and when the molton sulfur would flow through these seal pots, H2S (Hydrogen Sulfide) gas was released. I remember taking a Morgan dollar and opening the seal pot exposing it to the H2S gas for 5 seconds an…
Thank you for the explanation John. I totally agree with your commentary on F coins. One of the main reasons that I collect is for the thrill of the chase trying to find those PQ coins that don’t look like pocket change! I just don’t want my coins i…
Wow to all of this…what happened to CAC stickering and CACG aligned in grading standards! JA definitely has discussed A, B & C qualifications for coins within a grade so to hear CACG graders throw that out the window is interesting. Now if decim…
I actually have a few toned silver eagles all in PCGS holders. I didn’t pay an exorbitant premium for any of them; however, the last two I considered bidding on at GC went for way crazy money! It will be interesting to see if this CACG decision defl…
Bottom line is CACG is now one opinion not two so for that reason alone I won’t be crossing any PCGS CAC coins. I did cross a few NGC where it made sense to do so. JA and the sticker team has been a constant for over 15 years! We don’t know how long…
I totally agree that those coins that do turn had an unseen contaminant at time of encapsulation. A few years ago I bought a steel cent in a PCGS MS-68 holder for $90 as it had white spots all over it. I checked auction records and each time the coi…
I see plenty of CACG coins on various web sites, FB and Instagram. Last I heard, CACG has already graded over 100,000 coins! The good coins get snapped up quick and remain in tight hands. Coin shows are great and I do attend them; however, it’s alwa…
I have coins in OGH bought back in the 90’s that I sent in to get stickered. Every one of them looks the same as the day I bought them. I keep them in a safe in a controlled non-humid environment with raw pre 1982 Lincoln cents here and there. Any p…
CACG grading sets may help the graders to keep them sharp; however, a details grading set with explanations and close-up photos of problem areas, etc., would probably go a long way to educate the collecting public at major coin shows.
As a collector of circulated early type and later MS graded coins, I value CAC examples based on the most recent auction results and then look at those coins. If the coin I want is nicer than those examples and in an early holder (OGH / NGC no-line …

That’s so kind and generous of the dealer, willing to pay out only a few bucks, if anything at all, instead of doing the right thing. As a professional dealer, when he saw what you and your friend saw, he should have accepted r…
I don’t think my buddy wants me to reveal that. And the intent of me sharing isn’t to hide anything, just show a relevant example of how a major TPGC honored there coin guarantee. I will say that the dealer did agree to make up any difference in wha…
I have a coin buddy who bought draped bust 10c in an NGC holder with prongs. It also had a CAC sticker. He felt something wasn’t right with the edge of the coin so we compared it to an example I have. Sure enough it looked filed. After the dealer wo…
I can’t speak for a dealer; however, as a collector I have coins in PCGS, NGC, CACG and ANACS (soapbox) slabs. Based on my ability to find nice, mostly original and eye appealing coins, I’m convinced that regardless of the holder, the coins will com…
