Thanks for the tag, @totallyoriginal
This thread has some legs.
First off folks, as many of you know, but its worth reiterating, hypothetical grading really doesn't work unless you have the coin in hand. We just go round and round in circles. …
Nah. You are selling them for too little. In the last several months, base price for Gold CAC stickers have doubled, at least.
The most common and low end of the gold CAC world is a MS64 Mercury Dime with a Gold sticker. Thats at least $350 no…
OOHHH Wow. Congrats on your acquisitions. Ive seen the 1866 in hand and it is indeed a monster.
Proof Twenty Libs are in mind the most aesthetically pleasing coins around. These two are on an entirely new level!!!!
Agreed. Agreed. Agreed.
Laura, both you and I have discussed our passion for original Proof Sets. They are the "last frontier" in numismatics. They are so exciting. I can remember as a kid in the 1980's, so many of the sets being around. Grea…
Hi John - congrats on the new endeavor, its been a long time coming.
Here's a list of a few questions that I think that many will have:
1) Are the graders permitted to buy and sell coins for profit?
2) Will the holders fit in PCGS/NGC boxes? …
Interesting exercise. Never really thought how many CAC we in have in inventory. Since I packed up coins to be shipped to the ANA today. We probably have 450 or so with 350 will be at the ANA. Probably have 100 coins at CAC and since we have a 125% …
I'm no expect on Instagram or social media.....but it is certainly a hotbed for numismatic activity - especially with the younger crowd.
I've been creating IG videos for about two years now. Its fun. 3 mins a video on average times 4 or 5 a wee…
Wow, wow, wow. What great coin. Must be spectacular in hand. Outstanding write up - I love the images. Its so much fun to discover and narrate the history behind special coins.
Congrats.
Since I live in San Francisco, I am not too familiar with restaurants in New Jersey. My friends there do rave about a place called Wawa. Will that entice more people to bid if lunch with John is at Waha? I will pay for it.
I attended Dale Friend's memorial last Sunday in Lake Tahoe. It was quite clear he touched a lot of people. His son had these "Dale Friend" coins made for his birthday and passed them out. Very cool. Its going in my special box.
On another note…
Seth, thank you for a very informative video. And much thanks to John for taking the time. The one thing I noticed was that both John and Seth remarked that in the past they had never seen as many gorgeously toned Morgan Dollars as there are on the …
Looks like a wonderful coin from the images. Downright rare. Congrats. I really do not pay too much attention to price guides, but a coin like that would easily sell for 50% more than similar examples just a few years ago.
The golden rule: You w…
I guess in theory, yes. I would surmise that the coin would be reviewed to verify the grade is still where it should be and the new label is correct. Mistakes do happen from all sides.
The Witter Coin site stinks, it’s just a bunch of Trueviews. It’s a New Purchases posting machine, though.
Aesthetics, great pics, and info, I’d have to put Legend up there. CRO, but mostly for their perfect “look”. Check out Atlas Numismatics, …
I am happy that everyone got something out of this and I am sure that John is as well. Thank you for the kind words.
I would love to take credit for the video, but it was John’s idea - after learning the phrase “John doesn’t know color” is being …
An all CAC set of SLDs in any grade is almost impossible! In XF-AU no doubt that would be a true accomplishment that would be worthy of praise. Can’t think of another numismatic accomplishment I’d respect more (For the average collector).
@Seth_Wit…
@Legend - Why do you think the 3CN’s and Bust 25c series have not caught on like most other series? Do you believe this is a place that people should focus on now? If so… If they are failing to catch on now what makes you think they will catch on in…
Great, thanks for the update. So if cross out the $16 and write in $35, then I proceed to cross out the $35 and write in $65, does the coin automatically receive a gold sticker?
I would love to hear from set builders who buy all CAC for their collection or at least mostly CAC.
What series have you completed all CAC or close to it? If your still working on the set how far along are you? How long did is take to build the set…
