  • In terms of quality of the coins I think they've fallen a bit into what CAC has done and sticker coins that are solid for the grade to current standards and not pre-2013 standards. The 1977 Ike in ms68 is a good example of that. Of course if these …
  • I sent an email a few months ago, (or I called) to CAC, My suggestion; Allow dealers to check the CAC data base to see if a coin has been previously reviewed and not stickered. Benefits, The dealer saved the mail cost back and forth, and time, Th…
  • I am against of any information being released about coins that fail CAC. If dealers had the CAC failed information, it would give them a huge advantage during the buy/sell transaction.   If they are going to provide it to dealers, they might as w…
  • The problem is that it makes the coin look like a failure, and it would definitely be devalued in the marketplace (probably rightfully so). Some non-stickered coins are already appear devalued in the marketplace without this service.
  • I don't think there will be a stigma. My understanding is that the stickers didn't make a distinction between A and B coins so I think CACG-L coins will be CACG-No-L + candidates, for those that want to go that route.
  • Wow Justin! This is amazing news! I'm glad to see CAC recognized your photography skills! Do keep posting on the forums!
  • I believe the idea behind the "L" is to be an insurance policy of a sort for a previously stickered coin in the unlikely event that CACG is eventually perceived to be of lower quality/value. I do not think this is a likely outcome, but as a collecto…

  • How about Legacy Plus as a designation. L+ to show coins previously in a PCGS or NGC holder that had a Plus designation that are now in a CACG Plus+ holder  That would dilute the significance of the CACG brand. If CACG is truly the best, a coin’s …
  • Be aware @Zoins that any coin deemed an “A” by CACG will now have a plus grade in their holder. “B” coins will just have the whole grade number. In effect, with CACG, there is no longer the concept of A, B, and C coins. If a coin is defect-free an…
  • I think you will be disappointed. I sent CAC some Morgan dollars and some gold type. It was my understanding, from what I read in this thread, that some "C" coins from PCGS and NGC would be down graded in order to be "solid" for their "new" CACG g…
  • Well, the description of the coin itself for an ultra rarity may only be marginally better than a non-rarity, but I guess what I was talking about is the rich history about why that coin is an ultra rarity, how it came to exist, and/or all the prove…
  • I really enjoy the full page descriptions on ultra-rarities but for 99.9% of coins I really despise the descriptions. Do you think the difference between the 0.1% and the 99.9% are the descriptions themselves, or that you're more forgiving of des…
  • Got a new coin for my set! Just catching up this thread. Congrats on completing the set! This coin is a beauty!
  • I'm also waiting for PhotoVision to show up on Cert Verification.
  • People are private in different ways. Simpson is public in that he allows coins to be associated with his name on registry sets, slab inserts, and auction lot descriptions. While O'Dowd had a website and exhibits, he never published his name until h…
  • At one time they made white paper FLANNEL LINED envelopes. Bill Hall in SF was my source. Liked em. I have a few of these They were STITCHED together!
  • Just joking about the envelopes, but it does amaze me how carefully some coins have been preserved, over the decades,  before they were slabbed! Some of the coins I've seen in the sealed David Hall slips look amazing.
  • Condition census. Balderdash. Just as useless and nonsensical as gobbledygobbledness. Another useless nonsensical word is Illiteratti, and is especially so, when coupled with the words "...too archaic for some....". What is the definition of Con…
  • What an amazing piece of history! Congrats on a great piece your collection!

  • “Original surfaces.”  I realize “original” has become a term of art but it makes little sense when used to mean that the coin appears as if it has naturally-acquired toning and that the coin hasn’t been messed-with.  Agree. "Natural surfaces" may …
  • One of the challenges to overcome with communication and understanding is one's perspective. Generally, those collectors who understand the value of CAC are collecting more expensive coins. If one is collecting MS63-64 Morgan dollars, perhaps CAC …
  • I don't think a tiny amount of PVC on a gold coin would prevent a bean. I have at least two green beaned gold coins with a spot of green PVC. It's small but clearly there. It doesn't really concern me being gold but they do bean gold coins on occasi…
  • I wouldn't get too concerned about the phrase "buy the coin, not the sticker". It's not so different from the phrase "buy the coin, not the holder", which is even more popular. Both statements are a desire to examine individual coins vs. buying sigh…
  • I tend to overpay for unique, or unique to own, pieces. That or auction fever
  • This thread has morphed from a great collection being "a collection with terrific eye appeal, most coins in or near the condition census" to discussing the top collections of all time and top Set Registry coins. I think the OP's definition of a gre…
  • I once built a collection of Bust Halves 1794-1836 in AU58 for myself. Each coin was the best I could find for an AU58. I doubt a collector would have the same resources as I did. A great collection does not have to be top pop-it should be the best …
  • > the collection can not simply be bought quickly with a checkbook but will take many years to complete. It's worth noting that many well regarded collections were bought whole with a checkbook, including those from Bruce, Laura, Jerry, etc. The…
